Speakers

Enawgaw Mehari, M.D.
Department of Neurology, Morehead Clinic, Morehead, Ky.

For the Sixth Annual Summit of the Ethiopian Students Association International, we are honored and glad to have Dr. Enawgaw Mehari as our keynote speaker.

Not only is Dr. Enawgaw the older brother of our very own Wubeshet Mehari, he is also, in his own right, a man of many great achievements, especially as it pertains to his work on HIV/AIDS in Africa and in Neurology. His education spans many decades and many countries. Beginning in General Wingate School in Addis Abeba, Dr. Enawgaw pursued his medical and post graduate education in Slovakia, England, Canada and the United States. His studies focused on neurology and its connection with HIV (HIV neurology pain/NeuroAIDS) and it has been a life long journey that has fueled other achievements in this field as well. He has been published in various journals, founded and is co-editor of the Horn of Africa Journal of AIDs (HAJA) and been granted many awards and scholarships, including a nomination from the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Health of Mankind.

Along with his studies and his professional achievements, Dr. Enawgaw is also quite a leader and visionary, founding and directing People to People, Inc., an organization whose purpose is to assist adults and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. Dr. Enawgaw has also been the vice president of the Ethiopian North American Health Professional Association, and a leader in various community organizations, including the Ethiopian Community Association in Ottawa, Canada. He has been a partner to ESAi and continues to work with the youth of ESAi in the struggle against the brain drain that affects Ethiopia so profoundly. Most recently, a summer scholarship program was initiated to allow Ethiopian students to apply for a grant to work for a few months in the People to People Inc., branch in Ethiopia.

It is a pleasure to have someone who is not only a very successful student of neurology, an achieved professional and a community leader, but also a friend of ESAi!
