Hey this is to list Ethiopian Proverbs or "Teret Ena Mesalewoch" in any Ethiopian languages. I would love for this thread to concentrate only on Ethiopian proverbs, (in any Ethiopian Languages). I would love to learn more from non-Amharic proverbs. After you write the proverbs, explain what it mean or what it pertains to, and also indicate what language it is.

Kan dandeessu dhaani jennaan gowwaan galee niitii dhaane. (Oromiffa)

Translation: Yemitchilewun sew debdib bibal mamo kilu ebet gebto mistun debedebe

P.S. Anybody who speaks Oromiffa and is willing to partner with me in translating....I don't like my translation, so I will bring the Mamaksa (Teretina misalewoch), and u translate it for the mass?

I have two Amharic proverbs that are similar to the one above:

    Dengay Beyagonuat Temeleso Banat.

    Siran Leseriw, Shoke Lattariw.

Garbittiin qarqaarsa argatte majii daakuu dhoksiti. (oromiffa)

(Barian lagizish siluat yewefchowun dingay tidebkalech)

Note: The above proverb might seem descriminatory, but if you take a look at it, it talks of people who are used to living in a certain way, and don't even know there is better way of living and don't wanna get out of it. I think there is a similar proverb in Amharic...don't remember it.

well, I think that is a typical reaction that is seen from Oppressed people. Can't blame the oppressed. Its like a rape victim female that dislike ( is supicious of) all men, even the policeman that is trying to help her case. Would you blame her? That can also apply to our reaction to some global NGO that is genuinely trying to help us, (I am personally suspicious regardless of what they do).
