"Journey to the East" by Herman Hess

It was a small little, cute and a very humbling book about self discovery and the search of knowledge. It is very readable and tremendously inspiring. At least for me.

peace

speaking of Hennery Killinger

y'all should read, "The Trial of Henery Kissinger" by Christopher Hitchens

A quote from the back cover

"HIS OWN LONELY IMPUNITY IS RANK; IT SMELLS TO HEAVEN. IF IT IS ALLOWED TO PERSIST THEN WE SHALL SHAMEFULLY VINDICATE THE ANCIENT PHILOSOPHER ANARCHARSIS, WHO MAINTAINED THAT LAWS WERE LIKE COBWEBS; STRONG ENOUGH TO DETAIN ONLY THE WEAK, AND TO WEAK TO HOLD THE STRONG. IN THE NAME OF INNUMERABLE VICTIMS KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, IT IS TIME FOR JUSTICE TO TAKE A HAND."

Did y'all know that the U.S just UNSIGNED a treaty (unheard of in the history of treaties) world’s first permanent war crimes tribunal in which war criminals and people responsible for genocide such as Mengistu and terrorists like Ossama etc could be tried at.

Seems ideal for war on terrorism but US pulled out despite the fact virtually everybody is signing it. Of course with the exception of Israel and other kiss ass US allies

Why? because U.S got some war criminals as well, such as kissinger roaming around freely after causing the suffering of not hundreds, not thousands but millions of people all over the word. To learn more, read the above mentioned book.

I am not a big fan of Kissinger but the reality is that he has been the most influential American foreign policy personality...and his book is a must read for those who are interested in 'international affairs'.

As for the treaty, US does whatever it wants to do right now. Why would it sign a treaty that could possibly be used against it? One thing I've come to accept is that US foreign policy is not based on morality. It is based on what is best to the US(regardless of how it affects others). Interestingly, those of us who live here indirectly benefit from these policies (scary, is not it?)

Speaking of the devil...

THE TRIALS OF HENRY KISSINGER
(U.S. Premiere) Alex Gibney and Eugene Jarecki, U.S./U.K./Chile, 2002, 80m; video
Part contemporary investigation and part historical inquiry, THE TRIALS OF HENRY KISSINGER follows the quest of one journalist in search of justice. The film focuses on Christopher Hitchens' charges against Henry Kissinger as a war criminal - allegations documented in Hitchens' book of the same title - based on his role in countries such as Cambodia, Chile, and Indonesia. Kissinger's story raises profound questions about American foreign policy and highlights a new era of human rights. Increasing evidence about one man's role in a long history of human rights abuses leads to a critical examination of American diplomacy through the lens of international standards of justice. Gibney and Jarecki use extensive interviews and archival footage to remind us of Kissinger's powerful role in global affairs, while reconstructing the cases that Hitchens' so adamantly argues in his book. Both filmmakers will be present.

The INVISIBLE MAN, by Ralph Ellison, I know it's has been listed already but it's worth repeating. It's a great book, with a masterful depiction of the evolution of a young man's identity in American society.

uncle tom's cabin, even if you already read it in high school or b/c you had to, it is a must re-read. I read it just to find how "uncle tom" became the symbol for black folks that sell out but I believe that the character is violently misrepresented and misunderstood. I have yet to meet anyone who has given me a satifactory answer as to why Uncle Tom is supposed to be a sell-out.

Another must read, Heart of Darkness - Josehph Conrad. so relevant on so many levels.
