Haile to run cinema in Addis Ababa

Haile Gebresellasie, the greatest distance runner ever, is putting his development efforts in the cinema business in Addis Ababa.



After completing last year the 25 million Birr nine-storey building (Alem Building), Haile had now started the construction of a cinema behind the same building.

According to our sources, Haile bought the 500 square meter land on lease for 500,000 Birr from the Lease Office of the Addis Ababa City Administration two years ago.

The construction cost excluding the interior design of the cinema was said to be three million Birr.

The sources added that the cinema would probably be fully operational within the next six months or one year after the completion of the interior design.

According to them, importing equipment from abroad might delay the opening of the cinema before the planned date of operation.

With a capacity of sitting 350 people the cinema would also enable artists to present short plays.
Haile and Alem Plc own two buildings in Addis Ababa-Alem and Eden- located on Bole and Haile Gebresellasie roads respectively. Alem building cost 25 million birr, while Eden building cost 17 million Birr.
