When there's no 'major' famine, we tend to forget that every year, even in good years, there are at least 10 million, give or take a few, Ethiopians on permanent food aid. Of course in major drought years, which we haven't had since 2002, it's even worse. I believe there were 18 million on food aid in 2003 as a result of no major rains in 2002.

Here's an excellent article by René Lefort on the 'small' 2008-2009 famine.

Looks like this 'minor' famine is not so minor.

We should prepare ourselves for the inevitable full-fledged famine in the next couple of years.

Gooch, are you happy Ethiopians are dying from hunger because that will discredit the EPRDF? You sound like saying "Wendata, Derk Ena Rehab Gebalet le Ginbot 7".

I think you should be ashamed of yourself.
