Dear Friends and Neighbors, On behalf of the Ethiopian running girls for whom we raise money to buy athletic shoes, the Girls Gotta Run Foundation cordially invites you to our 2nd Annual Holiday Art Exhibit at the Modern Times Coffeehouse of Politics and Prose. The exhibit opens on Sunday, December 2, 2007 and runs until January 5, 2008. Opening Reception: Tuesday, December 4, 2007, 6 - 8 p.m. Check out the art; chat with the artists; enjoy wine, coffee and snacks; listen to the marvellous music of the "Basso Moderno Duo". (www.solobass.org) Movie Night: Thursday, December 6, 2007, 7 - 9 p.m. Check out the art; experience a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony; see the work-in-progress Girls Gotta Run DVD, and watch a documentary about one man's fight for fair trade between the coffee industry and a co-op of 74,000 Ethiopian growers. (http://www.blackgoldmovie.com/) All profits from the sale of this artwork go to buy running shoes for girls in Ethiopia. By training as athletes, these girls can delay traditional arranged marriages which can occur as early as 12 years of age. For more information and to see some of the art that will be on exhibit, visit: http://www.girlsgottarun.org/ Here is the flyer for the event: http://www.girlsgottarun.org/images/ggrholiday07.pdf . Please feel free to post for us if you feel moved to do so. Pat |
